What great beach!

Long Point is a sand spit on the north shore of Lake Erie, part of Norfolk County (“There’s no folk like the good folk of Norfolk!”).

It’s about 40 kilometres long and about a kilometre across at its widest point. Long Point Bay is divided into the Inner Bay and Outer Bay by a line that runs between Turkey Point to the north and Pottohawk Point to the south. Long Point is north of and across the lake from Erie, Pennsylvania. It’s great to watch fireworks from Erie while sitting not he beach … actually, it’s great to watch anything from the beach!

Long Point is a sand dune and is the largest erosion deposit formation in the Great Lakes. In 1982, Long Point National Wildlife Area was recognized as a wetland of international significance and in 1986, the Long Point Biosphere Reserve was designated as a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and as a globally significant Important Bird Area by Bird Life International. Inner Long Point Bay is a diverse sport fish spot and is continentally important staging area for migratory waterfowl.

There are a number of access points to the beach. Here are directions to the Provincial Park: Long Point Provincial Park.

We grab food at Udderly Kool on Erie Blvd but there are also some nice places in Port Rowan.
